Metaphor: ReFantazio

Petty Thief

By
Jarrod Garripoli

There are a few side quests that are tied to your various Followers in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Once you progress the Bond with Neuras enough to reach Rank 7, you will find out that all of the relics you’ve obtained have been stolen by someone. Naturally, Neuras wants you to get all of them back, with him pointing you towards a guard in Grand Trad. This quest will ultimately pit you in a battle against Jin the Charlatan.

(1 of 2) Speak to this guard by the recruitment center in Grand Trad after getting the quest.

Petty Thief Location

As mentioned above, you will automatically get this quest after reaching Rank 7 with Neuras’ Bond. This will require you to find all of Neuras’ Relics, which are spread out through the optional dungeons of the game. Once you have the quest in your log, Neuras mentions seeking out a guard by the recruitment center in Grand Trad. He will be standing right outside of the building and mentions that he saw another “celebrity” pass by, who happens to be Jin, one of the former candidates. This will put Jin’s runner on the map, right outside of Grand Trad, so you’ll have to go to it to trigger a battle.

Jin the Charlatan Boss Guide

Jin will have two helpers with him, a Mercenary Mage and a Mercenary Pikeman. You don’t have to defeat them, if you don’t want, as the battle will end once you bring Jin’s HP to nothing. However, both of the lackeys here can be quite annoying, especially with Jin’s output. First and foremost, you will see a lot of debuffs coming from the enemies here, so having "Dekunda" iconDekunda is pretty much mandatory ("Reset Talisman" iconReset Talismans, too, if you have access to those). Jin will use "Mage" iconMage Langour Wave to debuff everyone’s hit rate and evasion, which is dangerous as it makes you miss your attacks more, resulting in losig precious Turn Icons.

The Pikeman can debuff characters’ defence with his attacks (single target), while the Mage can debuff everyone’s attack with Mage Group Drain (targets all). Overall, though, there isn’t a whole lot of damage coming from Jin and his lackeys here. The Pikeman does single target attacks, one of which is Lightning elemental, while the Mage has a single-target Dark spell. Jin will have a few other abilities besides the debuff, like Cursed Needle, a weak physical Pierce attack that could inflict Hex. He doesn’t seem to use this too often, though, nor does he use Bewitching Lip Rouge to try and charm someone often, either.

(1 of 6) Jin will be accompanied by two enemies, a Mercenary Mage and Pikeman

At around 50% HP or so, Jin will start using Mage Grace, a party-wide heal that seems to replenish about 750 or so HP. He will use this a lot, too, so you want to make sure you can outdamage it on every turn. If you cannot do this, then you may be stuck here. The whole battle is mostly about managing the debuffs and the heal, whenever you get to that point. Don’t forget to steal from Jin here, as you can get a "Fortune God's Abacus" iconFortune God’s Abacus, a great weapon for the "Merchant" iconMerchant/"Tycoon" iconTycoon classes.

After defeating Jin here, your party will be finished up with the quest and automatically return to the runner. You will also go straight to Neuras and complete the Bond with him, as you finish up the final rank.
